branding can be hard...

Are you frustrated by how difficult it is to use your logo in real life?

We get that.

Perhaps your church has a logo (or two, or ten) but it is so difficult to actually use, never looks right, or feels outdated with shifting variations created over the years.

Or maybe you are part of a church plant looking to have some visual momentum leading up to an  initial launch.

In either case, as a church leader, you want a brand that will help you build unity and give your community something they can rally around to say, “Hey, that’s my church!”

We can help.

Case Studies

First Baptist, Columbia SC

Watch below as Pastor Wes Church talks about working with Creative+ to update the brand identity of this historic downtown church — acknowledging its legacy while pointing toward the future.

Lighthouse for Life

The pressures of surviving as a non-profit had nearly turned off the lights at Lighthouse for Life, but an updated brand identity helped breathe new life into the organization — bringing unity and a renewed sense of purpose around their mission to eradicate human trafficking.

Let's talk...

Yes and Amen!

You should be more concerned with the Gospel of Jesus Christ than the logo on the sign out front.

If your church isn’t preaching the Word, having a good logo is not going to solve any of your problems. By all means, start with standing firm on Biblical truth.

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”

Gen. 2:15

God is a God of order, reason, and beauty — the ultimate designer.

It is clear throughout the creation story, it is seen in the detail with which he instructs Noah to build the arc, and it is revealed through the elaborate intricacies of the Tabernacle.

We firmly believe He cares if things are done well.

When God put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, BEFORE sin entered the world, he gave them work to do and things to care for.

Our daily lives, our church buildings, and yes, even our church logos can serve to represent the God who created us.

We should care how we are presenting ourselves to the world. After all, we were creatively designed with the unique ability to be creative as well. We believe creativity directly bears the image of Almighty God.

Yes, the cross is at the center of our faith, but it does NOT have to be at the center of every church logo.

Putting the cross in place of a T in your logo can be done tastefully, but it has been done, done again, and overdone.

Some would even argue that simply placing a cross in the logo belittles the magnitude of what it represents.

Regardless of your opinion on that particular point, our primary issue is that the cross by itself does not create any distinction for your particular church — and that’s what drives memorability and connection.

Aren’t we all on the same team?

Yes! We are all part of the one Big C Church family, BUT just like each of our nuclear families has unique characteristics, each local church can have its own distinguishing characteristics.

Having a good church logo is not about saying that you are better than anyone else, it is just about creating opportunities for connection.

It gives your people something they can put on their cars and recognize when they see others out on the road. Or something they can wear on a t-shirt at the gym, and when someone asks about their shirt, it gives an opportunity to talk about the church, and their faith.

You can!

If you have a professional creative team on staff or in your congregation, then by all means, use the talent that you have.

However, we ask that you consider the following questions in return:

  • Did you design your church building yourself or did you engage with an architect?
  • Did you construct your church building yourself or did you engage with a Christian contractor?
  • Did you install the entire sound and lighting system yourself or did you engage with a professional?

Maybe you did actually do some of those things internally, but we would bet that the internal team still had professional experience.

There are certain tasks that unquestioningly require skilled sources. Yet, when it comes to design, the availability of DIY software has shifted the collective mindset to assume anyone with a laptop can perform tasks that formerly required a professional.

So, yes, anyone with photoshop CAN design your logo.

  • Do they know how to use the principles of design to create something iconic that SMART (Simple, Memorable, Appropriate, Reliable, and Timeless)?

    Maybe.

  • Do they have the experience to design a complete brand identity system so that you will have the right files you need for ordering print materials, signage, apparel, and digital media.

    Perhaps.

But if the answer is no, then it is time to call a skilled worker.

Let us be very clear…

It does not matter to us if you choose someone within your church, your local community, or any other design firm to create your logo.

What we care about is that it is done well, because every church logo represents a local church, and every Gospel-centered local church represents the body of Christ, to which we also belong.

If you choose to have us help, we would be delighted, and we can assure that we will do our best, as working unto the Lord, because He is ultimately who we serve.

Call a Skilled Worker...

When Moses was commanded to build the Tabernacle for the Lord in Exodus 36, he summoned “every skilled person to whom the Lord had given ability and who was willing to come and do the work.” Throughout the chapter, there are several additional references to “skilled workers.”

God has clearly gifted different people with different skills and abilities to use for His glory — just as we see in the New Testament description of the body.

You are good at what you do.
We are good at what we do.

If you’re ready to have a cohesive brand identity for your church, call a skilled worker. We would love to help.
